At the Thursday, December 5, meeting of the Pocatello Rotary Club, Rotarians heard a presentation from Sarah O’Banion, Executive Director at Family Services Alliance of SE Idaho (FSA).

O’Banion spoke about the mission of FSA, the work that they do, and took questions following her presentation.

Focusing primarily on the work FSA does to help victims of domestic violence, O’Banion said that her organization sees about 1500 new clients each year.  She said that, because they have a good working relationship with law enforcement, they are often able to meet with victims of domestic violence during a call, rather than having a police officer provide a victim of abuse with a card and have them seek help later.  O’Banion stressed that they provide victims with options, explain how those options might help, and let victims of abuse know they are available to help.

According to the FSA website, some of the services provided by FSA include:

Victim Advocacy
Public Awareness
Emergency Shelter
Attachment-Focused Parenting
Prevention Education
Counseling and Play Therapy
24-hour Crisis Hotline
Support Groups for Survivors of Abuse
Leadership and Activism Opportunities
Rural Services
