(Guest Column by Pastor Kirk Triplett, Faith Lutheran Church)
I have a love for music. Maybe it’s because I am a musician, but I cannot imagine life without melody. Much of my love of music comes from the fact that I am a Christian and I believe that God is the one who inspires creativity and beautiful melodic tunes. It astounds me when I hear people say they are not big music fans. How can this be? Music is everywhere and influences us in more ways than we can imagine.
I strongly believe that the Christian should have a practice of music in his or her life. Now, not just any music, but music that proclaims the praises of God. In 2 Chronicles 20:18-23, the people of Israel were going to battle against Ammon, Moab, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir. Jehoshaphat sent the musicians and the singers ahead of the army and they went toward the enemy singing and praising God saying, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.” When the army arrived, Ammon, Moab, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir were defeated because God set ambushes and they ended up destroying one another.
Here is the point: Singing praises to God brings victory! Maybe you have been going through trials and tribulations and life is rough. May I encourage you to give thanks to the Lord and sing songs of praise? Beginning February 9, 2020, we will be hosting Nights of Praise at Faith Lutheran Church, every Sunday night from 5pm-6pm. Come join us and sing in victory.
