Look at any list of the top ten challenges faced by business owners and you’re likely to find that many of the issues mentioned have to do with government. Whether it’s dealing with regulatory compliance, taxes, or an uncertain political climate, no business owner can afford to ignore the impact of government on his or her business.

That’s why I’m never surprised when business owners tell me that our advocating on their behalf is one of the most important benefits they receive as members of the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce.

Here at the Chamber we know that government policy can make…or break…a business. That’s why we have a robust advocacy arm, led by our President and CEO, Matt Hunter.

Members of the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce enjoy unparalleled access to legislators. Our elected representatives and their staff members are regularly in attendance at our Legislative Affairs Council meetings. When the legislature is in session, the Council meets every Thursday at 7:00 a.m. at the Clarion Inn, and members participate in a phone conference with our state legislators.

In addition, each year we join with other Chambers from across the state for “Chamber Days at the Legislature,” a two-day event at which we meet with lawmakers in Boise to express our views on impending, or suggested, legislation.

This year, we’ll be traveling to Boise for Chamber Days on Monday, February 3, and Tuesday, February 4. If you haven’t already done so, why not join the Chamber today, and sign up to participate in Chamber Days? If you’re already a member, please make sure to register for Chamber Days by this Friday, January 24.

Remember, the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce exists to serve you, the members of our local business community.
