President Donald J. Trump cruised to an easy and commanding victory in the GOP’s Iowa Caucus, with over 31,000 voters giving him 97.1% of the vote.
Trump was unexpectedly handed a second victory from Iowa’s Democratic Caucus, when the Iowa Democratic Party, even at this hour, failed to deliver any results to the public. Political commentators on the left labeled the process, “chaos,” while reports came in that Democratic precinct captains were unable to verify their vote tallies were accepted through the app they were using. As backup, they were told to call in results four times throughout the process. When they tried this, they were told to call only with final results. When they attempted this, they were put on hold…for hours…sometimes ‘timing out’ and having to call back in, only to go back in the queue.
Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price, in an early morning phone call, said, “We expect to have numbers to report later today.” Price continued, “At this point, the [Iowa Democratic Party] is manually verifying all precinct results.”
Republican commentators were able to immediately seize on the debacle, comparing it to the rollout of the Obamacare website, and questioning how the Democrats expect to run the country when they can’t even figure out how to design and use an app or tally votes in one state.
Democratic operatives appearing on news shows this morning conceded the “embarrassment” of their process and that they had handed Trump another talking point for his campaign.
As of this writing, there is no time set for results of the Democratic Iowa Caucuses to be released.
