(Guest Column by Pastor Kirk Triplett, Faith Lutheran Church)
In this crazy political climate we live in, many who believe in Jesus Christ struggle with how to handle the candidates and the issues. I am one who tends to shy away from the frenzy of politics. I understand, and believe, that we have the right to stand up for what we believe, and I think that we all are obligated to do so, especially those who hold to the truth of the Bible. However, we must take pause and understand what the word of God says about politics. When we understand that the plan of God is never thwarted by who is in office or what law is passed, we can find peace in the midst of the chaos.
Psalm 118:8-9 explains, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord that to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.”
So, we must cling to the Lord and trust him above all else. When frustration arises, and it will, and the political scene seems hopeless and filled with half-truths, empty promises, and ridiculous ideology, remember that our trust is not in these leaders, but in God alone. Be encouraged, God can never be removed from his throne. We can navigate the muddy water of politics with the hope that God has a beautiful plan and that all that happens in this life gives us the opportunity to share with other the great love of Jesus.
