Multiple news outlets are reporting that a Japanese flu drug, according to China, is “clearly effective” in treating coronavirus.

The drug, favipiravir, developed by Fujifilm Toyama Chemical (a subsidiary of Fujifilm), has been given to about 340 patients in Wuhan and Shenzhen in clinical trials.  According to Zhang Xinmin, an official at China’s science and technology ministry, ““It has a high degree of safety and is clearly effective in treatment.”
