Time for Faith
“Faith causes us to wait faithfully for the confidence that comes with God’s approval.” (Galatians 5:5)
Do you remember a time in your life when the days and weeks and months seemed to go soooo slowly? I think many of us could look back on the last two months and agree that our lives slowed down to an uncomfortable, unsettling crawl! But I also remember some long ago events in my life that bring smiles rather than fear and concern for the future.
Celebrating my 16th birthday long, long ago is one special event I remember well – that was the day my Dad was escorting me to the California Department of Motor Vehicles to take my driving TESTS to obtain my long-coveted permanent driver’s license (these were the written exam and the dreaded in-the-car driving evaluation). Yes, I would be SO grown up that day!! But “that day” seemed to pass in SLOW motion….every second taking at least 100 times longer than normal; every movement leisurely measured, and every word spoken drawn out to its most deliberate and lingering last syllable! “Can…we… go… now, ..Dad?” “Barbara, it’s only 6 AM. The DMV doesn’t open for another two hours. Have faith, sit down and have some breakfast.” “But …Dad.d.d.d.d.d!” My understanding of faith in those days was not the focus of my busy and “complicated” teen life. Patience and trust in God’s plan for me was something not experienced in my “right-now-would-be-good” outlook of the world! How silly it all seems now. Today I see each day as such a precious gift from our Heavenly Father – a day to be lived to the last moment in awe and praise of Him!
Several Scripture verses have been of comfort lately: Psalm 91:1-2; Psalm 90:15; James 1:2-4; and my favorite verses that have brought peace to my heart time and time again in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. ESV
May we all fill our lives with an undying faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ – a faith that brings us to the foot of His cross in humble adoration and forever thanks for every day!
