Last night, at a meeting of the Bannock County Republican Central Committee, the members picked three possible replacements for Bannock County Commissioner Steve Brown. Brown resigned earlier this month after taking a position with the U.S. Small Business Administration in the State of Alaska.
The three names selected, in order of preference, were Jeff Hough, Kay Jenkins, and Rick Cheatum.
Hough is currently running for the position in the November election. He ran unopposed in the Republican primary. Hough is a lifelong resident and a graduate of Idaho State University with a degree in Finance. He is a member of the Pocatello Marathon Committee and the race director of the Pocatello Fall Ultra Mountain Bike Race. To learn more about Hough, see his campaign page, jeffhoughforcommissioner.com.
Kay Jenkins is a long-time teacher at Pocatello High School, and Rick Cheatum is currently a Pocatello City Council Member.
The Republican Central Committee now has 48 hours to forward the three names to Governor Brad Little. Little then has 15 days to select one of the three persons named to fill out the remaining term of Brown. If the governor fails to make a selection, the Republican Central Committee makes the selection.
