Today, as we celebrate the birth of America, we remember that it is truly a melting pot, with people coming from all over the world to live in this great country and pursue their dreams.
One fantastic benefit is that Americans are able to enjoy delicious food from all over the world. One local Pocatello restaurant celebrated today by giving back to the community. Himalayan flavor, a Nepali & Indian restaurant that has been open for two years now, provided hundreds of free carry out meals today. From 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., about 400 customers stopped by to pick up a plate with an assortment of some of their favorites: butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, plain and fried rice, mixed vegetables, and chicken biryani.
Owner Roshan Kumar said that he wanted to do something special for the community, as his business experienced tremendous support during the pandemic. According to restaurant staff, orders during the lockdown for takeout meals exceeded those typically made for dining-in prior to the shutdown.
Himalayan flavor is located at 303 E. Alameda Road in Pocatello, and is currently open for carry out orders only. However, starting this Monday, after reconfiguring the restaurant and adding new furniture for better cleaning, they plan to start their dining service this coming Monday, July 6. The buffet will not resume, staff estimates, until August.
You can also find Himalayan flavor at the Portneuf Valley Farmer’s Market every Saturday during the season
