Yesterday, U.S. Senator Jim Risch attended a meeting of veterans, their families, and their supporters, at the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building in Pocatello. All local veterans in the area were invited to attend the meeting by AMVETS, which sponsored the event.
AVMETS Idaho Post 1 Commander Lance Kolbet began the meeting by introducing Senator Risch and presenting him with a lifetime membership in the Sons of AMVETS. The Senator then read from prepared remarks on SB 785: “Leading the Way to Comprehensive Mental Health Care and Suicide Prevention for Veterans.”
Following Senator Risch’s prepared remarks, he took questions from the audience. Topics included civility in the current political climate, the SCOTUS confirmation hearings, and requests for help from some of the veterans in attendance who had experienced difficulties in working with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. On this latter issue, the Senator had his staff, some of whom were in attendance, meet with those experiencing problems immediately following the question and answer session.
At the conclusion of the meeting Senator Risch committed to returning again next year.
