Local attorney and former Idaho State Representative Dustin Manwaring has defeated incumbent Chris Abernathy to reclaim his position as Representative for Idaho’s Legislative District 29A. With 100% of precincts reporting, according to the Bannock County Elections Department website, Manwaring has received 53.77% of the vote, while his opponent received 46.23%.
Manwaring previously served as the District 29A Representative from 2016 to 2018. In 2018, Abernathy won the seat which Manwaring reclaimed in the current, 2020, election.
In a statement on his campaign Facebook page, Manwaring said, “It’s time to get back to work in the Idaho House. I look forward to representing the people of Pocatello. Thank you for all of your support. I also want to publicly thank Rep. Abernathy for his service. I feel blessed, humbled and encouraged to work hard for you.”
All other local Idaho state representatives were reelected to their positions. As reported on the Bannock County Elections Department website, those winning reelection along with the percentage of the vote each obtained are as follows:
Legislative District 28 Senator Jim Guthrie (R) – 76.77%
Legislative District 29 Senator Mark Nye (D) – 100%
Legislative District 28A Representative Randy Armstrong (R) – 67.04%
Legislative District 28B Representative Kevin Andrus (R) – 100%
Legislative District 29B Representative James Ruchti (D) – 100%
