The Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has announced that their annual poetry contest is now open.  Homeschool students from ages 7-19 may submit their entries between now and May 1st.

The contest has three categories based on student age.

Category 1:  Students age 7-10 write a poem with the theme, Morning.

Category 2:  Students age 11-14 write a poem with the theme, Afternoon.

Category 3:  Students age 15-19 write a poem with the theme, Evening.

All poems should have a maximum length of 16 lines and a discernible rhyme scheme.

Students may enter up to three different poems per contest.  The cost to enter is $15 for each entry, or $10 per entry for HSLDA members.

Prizes for honorable mention and winning entries range from $50 to $500.

All contest profits go to HSLDA’s charitable arm, HSLDA Compassion, which provides grants to help make homeschooling possible for families facing hard times.
