POCATELLO, ID–Over forty people gathered at Mountain Valley Baptist Church last Monday evening to hear Dr. Shanon Brooks, president of Monticello College in Monticello, Utah, present his lecture on The New Economy. The event, sponsored by Patriots for Liberty and Constitution, was part of a multi-day speaking tour Dr. Brooks conducted in Southern Idaho.
During the first part of the lecture, Dr. Brooks explained basic principles of national economics and offered an unvarnished assessment of the economic danger which the United States currently faces. Next, he laid out a path to individual economic stability based on the following principles:
- Getting a world class liber education (the study of both liberal and manual arts)
- Building a home without a mortgage
- Learning to live with off-grid energy
- Growing all of one’s own food
- Starting one’s own business
Finally, he showed how Monticello College is training young people to achieve economic independence early in their lives, and position themselves to thrive in even the most challenging circumstances.
