Pocatello’s Outdoor Recreation Program is offering a variety of kayak and tube floats on the Portneuf River this summer. The event notes on Pocatello’s City Calendar read:
The Portneuf River has several floatable sections. Join us to learn the various launches, take-outs, shuttle routes, obstacles, and river skills. Bring your own kayak or rent one from us. Shuttles are provided from the take-out to the launch. Equipment shuttles can be arranged if you have your own.
We require a PFD to be worn on the river at all times (PFD is provided). We also require solid footwear. We suggest retainers for glasses, clothes that can get wet, a water bottle with a leash, and a towel in your car at the end.
We discourage electronics, glass containers, and whining. Our kayaks are small inflatable kayaks made by a raft company. They are very easy to use and don’t require a lot of expertise but coordination is needed. We also have tandem kayaks for those wanting to test the durability of relationships. All river stretches and watercraft are subject to change with changes in flows, obstacles, and other conditions.
We will meet at the take-out at 5:30 p.m. Emails will be sent giving detailed directions to participants the Monday before float. Space is limited.
Possible floats/routes include: Cheyenne bridge to Centennial park, Batiste road bridge to Water Department property, Edson Fichter to Taysom Park, Edson Fichter to Centennial.
