(Bannock County Assessor’s Office, August 3, 2023)

Wow! August snuck up on me! We have been busy finalizing assessed property values after completing the Board of Equalization process and submitting values to the State for approval. Now, we are waiting for them to let us know when we can move forward in starting our re-evaluation process for 2024. We are busy tweaking some of our policies and procedures so we can streamline some things and improve our own daily work as well as customer service.
I will take a break from talking about appraising and introduce my new Chief Deputy. I appointed Randy Hobson to the position in March of this year. Randy has been a Certified Residential Appraiser with our office for 4 years. He has experience with management in other positions he’s held. He was born and raised here and graduated from Pocatello High School, and went on to graduate from Boise State University. Randy has already proven his ability to learn quickly and step up to the plate. He came into this position at one of the busiest times of the year for us. I am excited to work with him, and I know he will be a great asset to our office and Bannock County.
Soon, we will start our re-evaluation process, which we refer to as “fielding” (more information about this in the “Appraisal Corner”). We are in the 2nd year of our 5 year plan that the state requires us to have. In the 1st year (2023), we ended with 23% of the county being physically inspected. Idaho Statute requires we have 20% completed each year, so we got a little jump start on 2024. In 2024 we are required to have a total of 40% physically inspected, which means in 2024, we need to do another 20% of the county. Physically inspected does not mean we need to access your home; We go out and update pictures and look for any new improvements, such as new buildings, additions, etc. At the same time, if you have had significant damage to your property or feel like there are issues with your property that we need to be aware of, you are welcome in our office at any time (not just in June) to visit with an appraiser.
We are so grateful to live and serve such a great community! I am looking forward to the remainder of my first year as Assessor.
