Greetings from Marty Simmons
By: Marty Simmons
Greetings and salutations! My name is Martin, but everyone calls me Marty. If you have never heard of me before, it is because I have never attempted this before. I feel it is important to understand up front, that I am not an intellectual genius, nor am I accomplished with degrees from higher learning on the wall. Nevertheless, not being highly educated does not mean unintelligent or unimportant.
I am 70 years young and currently going to the Idaho State University to gain a degree and more education. There are certain truisms I have learned through working hard all my life, and one is that education is invaluable. I have also learned that education does not equate to intelligence alone. Intelligence comes from critically accessing facts and with common sense, understanding that education or set of facts. Therefore facts and education are futile without the understanding through common sense and the truth of reality.
I am one of those people who takes what I read and hear and critically research, ponder, and use common sense, logic, and reasoning for my conclusions, as I feel we all should.
It seems in society and in education I find that many accept blindly whatever seems appealing, easy, or comfortable, without first researching and gathering other pertinent facts. This always leads to conclusions that are short-sighted and imbalanced. It is easier to accept what others are telling us as the “truth”. But one must ask, is it truth? We cannot know without studying, researching, comparing with truisms of principle and then arriving at the greatest of truth. Does this mean you will always come to the absolute truth? Of course not, but it provides a much greater wisdom and validity, creating a more truth-based conclusion.
I have written this as a basis and foundation for the series of articles I am writing. I feel that today in our society, with our instant access to information and opinions, greater than at any time in world history, we have a tendency to enter a world of emotional hysteria in what we hear and are exposed to. Many subjects are important, and have greater effects on us personally and on an society than many will admit. However, denial does not make it untrue, just inconvenient. By spur-of-the-moment answers and quick emotional responses without substance, we deal with symptoms of problems, which lack the foundation of truth-based conclusions and therefore have little wisdom.
Many of the articles I will write will deal with our country and society. They will begin with how the Constitution came about, why a constitution, and the laws it embraces. I will address the facts surrounding the Constitution and how they affected our country then and today. As we begin with the formation of the Constitution of the United States and move along until we reach the issues of today, I promise my articles will be scholarly and principle-based, seeking to leave bias and opinion to you as the reader. I ask only that you read objectively, and by seeking through critical thought and study, arrive at your best own conclusion.
My references for the basis of each article will be listed at the end of each article to assist in validation.
Until then I will say thank you kindly,
Marty
