(From the Desk of Senator James E. Risch, August 23, 2023)
Last week, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled against Idaho’s law prohibiting biological males from competing in women’s sports.
This decision fails Idaho’s women and girls.
It is unfair to pit biological men against biological women, and worse, it’s dangerous.
I am trying to fix this issue at the federal level so no parent has to explain to their child why she is legally denied a fair playing field. I introduced the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act to protect fair and safe competition in women’s sports across the country.
The Ninth Circuit’s misguided decision also underscores the urgent need to restructure this massive left-leaning court.
With Senator Crapo, I introduced legislation to split the Ninth Circuit and form a new court outside of California to better serve Idaho and the West.
Fairness in sports. Fairness in the courts. Idaho deserves both.
