One person is dead and two are recovering from injuries as a result of two unrelated shootings that took place in East Idaho this week.

The first incident, resulting in two injuries, occurred late Tuesday night in Chubbuck.  The Chubbuck Police Department’s Facebook page has the details of that situation:

On 03/12/24, at approximately 11:46 pm, members of the Chubbuck Police Department responded to the area of West Linden Avenue to investigate the report of a disturbance.

During the investigation, officers learned that an adult female had been shot in the arm and an adult male had been shot in the hand. Both subjects were transported to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

There is currently no ongoing threat to the community and this incident is still under investigation.

We thank our Patrol Division and Investigation Team for their response and ongoing investigation efforts. We also thank the Chubbuck Fire Department and the Pocatello Ambulance Crew for their assistance.

The second incident unfolded in Blackfoot around midday on Wednesday.  The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office shared the following information on their Facebook page:

The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Bingham County Blackfoot Joint Detective Division, is currently on the scene of an incident at 134 W 600 N. Law enforcement is investigating a potential home invasion that has resulted in a death at that location.

At approximately 12:15 PM, law enforcement was dispatched to the residence following a report of a possible home invasion to the emergency communication center. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered a scene that prompted an investigation into the home invasion and death. Details regarding the victim(s) or suspects have not been released as this investigation develops.

We are working diligently to gather evidence and determine the events that led to this tragic incident. We understand the concern this may cause in the community.

The area around 134 W 600 N has been cordoned off, and we are asking residents to avoid the area to allow law enforcement personnel to proceed with their work effectively.

The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information regarding this incident to call 208-785-1234. As the investigation continues, further details will be released to the public.

Late Wednesday afternoon, the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office shared further details:

We would like to update the community on some clear details that we can share after preliminary investigation.

The homeowner, an elderly female, is the party that is alive. She was harmed but protected herself. She was transported via ambulance to a local hospital. She is expected to survive.

The suspect of the home invasion was an adult male and was deceased upon our arrival.

This is believed to be an isolated incident with no further threat to the community.
