Why is Councilman Cheatum (aka Representative Cheatum) asking for the “parcel” percentage in Council’s 04/11/24 discussion of the S. 5th annexation project?
Landowners representing sixty percent (60%) of the parcels will be one of the requirements of the newly amended law that goes into effect on 07/01/24.
He knows this. The Mayor and Council know this and so does staff. Based on what was said in this meeting and the numbers on their slideshow, you can see why the Mayor/Council are continuing to push through this annexation even though the P&Z Commission denied the City’s application on 05/01/24 recommending they wait until after the revised legislation goes into effect on 07/01/24. A public hearing is scheduled for this Thursday (05/16/24).
This clip illustrates another example of why elected officials cannot serve two masters.
Listen to Councilman Cheatum’s strong bias (putting the city’s interest OVER those of the people he’s elected to serve) that led him to vote against SB1293/amended – a property rights friendly bill that memorialized what a majority of the State is already doing without a statute requirement. The amended bill was signed into law on 04/09/24.
