The Chubbuck Police Department is honored to announce the upcoming retirement of Lieutenant (Lt.) Steve Young. After over 27 years of Law Enforcement service to our local community and the Chubbuck Police Department (CPD), Lt. Young has decided to retire on June 15th, 2024.
Lt. Young grew up in the Chubbuck/Pocatello area and he graduated from Highland High School. Prior to joining our ranks, he worked as a Glazier and after high school he pursued a law enforcement career, by attending Idaho State University and graduating from the Law Enforcement Program.
During his time with the CPD, Lt. Young served in many roles, including as a Field Training Officer (FTO), FTO Supervisor, a Bike Patrol Officer, a Detective in our Criminal Investigations Division, and as a Patrol Sergeant. He also received an “Outstanding Service to the Community Award” for his participation as the Director of the Bike Patrol Program.
In 2003, he received the “Outstanding Officer Award” and throughout his career he has received numerous personal letters of appreciation from community members thanking him for his service. It’s clear that Lt. Young had a positive impact on the lives of many within our community.
Lt. Young climbed the ranks of the department, ultimately serving as the Division Commander for both our Patrol Division and Support Services Division. He also obtained several Idaho POST certificates throughout his career, including his Advanced, Supervisor and Management certificates.
In 2018, he attended the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy (FBINA) in Quantico, Virginia, and he is a graduate of Session #274. The FBINA is a 10-week professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement managers nominated by their agency heads because of their demonstrated leadership qualities.
Several times Lt. Young has expressed how proud he is of his two children and his supportive wife, and we are sure that they will be glad to have him back full time. Every agency is built on those that came before them and Lt. Young is a prime example of this. He will be missed, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Congratulations Lt. Young, enjoy your well-deserved retirement.
