BANNOCK COUNTY, Idaho – Triple-digit temperatures are expected in parts of southeast Idaho this week, so the Bannock County Office of Emergency Management is encouraging people to prepare for excessive heat.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat watch in Pocatello and Chubbuck, as well as other parts of southeast Idaho, with temperatures reaching above 100 degrees Wednesday through Saturday.
The Bannock County Office of Emergency Management is urging people to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
- Stay hydrated
- Stay in air-conditioned spaces and out of the sun
- Do not leave children or animals in unattended vehicles
- Take breaks and use a buddy system if working outdoors
- Check on friends and family
Organizations in the area that will be opening a cooling shelter are asked to notify the Office of Emergency Management to help share that information as it becomes available.
Due to the extreme heat, there will be an increased threat of wildfires. People should monitor and obey fire restrictions, including the Bannock County Burn Ban. Do not let trailer chains drag, and do not park or start a vehicle on dry grass.
