The South County Fire Conference, held in Downey, Idaho last week on June 20-22, has wrapped up their 5th successful year. This year’s conference featured two tracks, extrication and fire ground operations.
In a social media post, the organizers said, “2025 marks the fifth consecutive year of training in Downey, Idaho. Year one looked quite different than year five looks! We couldn’t have done this without the volunteers and sponsors we so graciously received. This training has always been free to the attendees and I think it is very important to try and keep it that way. Without donations from the community it would be impossible to offer it for free. This community really shows up when it’s important! Once again we had firefighters from all over including Bear Lake and American Falls! We also had firefighters from North Bannock, Fort Hall, Inkom, McCammon, Franklin County, and Downey.
I would like to thank Franklin County Fire District for providing tools for the extrication class. They really tore up the cars that were donated from the Downey Community! Thank you to those that gave us some cars to cut up!
Food was another crazy situation with Sandy Gary Blanchard donating beef to feed our instructors! Thomas Market in Malad is no longer, but the new owners were kind enough to send us some meat as well as Albertson’s in Pocatello and Ridley’s.
Wes and Karen with the Bannock County EOC were crucial in finding funding for lunches and even got us some pretty cool t-shirts! The food they purchased from McNeeat’s in Arimo and Subway in McCammon really hit the spot.
Last but certainly not least, we owe the biggest thanks to FST Idaho for the resources they provided.
Here’s to a successful 2025, and a promise to continue in 2026!”
