Powerline Safety Settings Go Into Effect to Prevent Wildfire
Despite a recent wave of cool weather, grasses and other plants are drying out across eastern Oregon and southern Idaho. Dry vegetation can turn into fuel for wildfires. For the safety of our communities, Idaho Power has implemented enhanced protection settings on powerlines in higher wildfire-risk areas.
This change means powerlines in those areas won’t automatically re-energize if a momentary fault is detected. Watch this video to learn how enhanced protection settings work and why we use them.
While these settings can prevent wildfires, they can lead to more frequent, longer outages. Here are a few steps you can take to prepare for potential outages:

- Plan for your family’s unique needs, like refrigerated medicine, powered medical equipment, and livestock watering.
