Don’t Let Government Take the Place of Your Church or Family!
Government agencies are quietly replacing the influence once held by parents, pastors, and communities.
By: Rep. Heather Scott

In America, and especially here in Idaho, faith and family have always been the foundation of our freedom. Our churches teach moral responsibility, and our families pass down the values that make our communities strong. But today, we’re seeing more and more attempts by government to step into roles that don’t belong to it.
Whether it’s through education, welfare programs, or social policy, government agencies are quietly replacing the influence once held by parents, pastors, and communities. Each time we let the state decide what our children learn, how our families should live, or which moral values are “acceptable,” we lose a little more of our independence.
The family is the first government, the original place of love, discipline, and guidance. The church is the moral compass that reminds us there’s something higher than politics or policy. When government tries to take over either, it becomes too powerful, too intrusive, and too disconnected from the people it is supposed to serve.
We must stand firm and protect the proper order of authority:
- God above all.
- Family as the foundation of society.
- Church as the guide for moral truth.
- Government as the servant, not the master, of the people.
The more we depend on government for things our families and churches once provided, the more control it gains over our lives. Let’s keep that balance in check.
Strong families and strong churches mean less need for big government and more freedom for all.
So, stay engaged. Support your local church. Strengthen your family ties. Teach your children personal responsibility. And never forget: our liberty begins at home and in our faith, not in the halls of government.
