(Bannock County Press Release, November 7, 2025)

POCATELLO, Idaho – Pocatello residents will have the chance to cast the final vote for mayor on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Because none of the seven candidates in the Nov. 4 election received more than 50% of the vote, a runoff will be held between the top two vote-getters, Greg Cates and Mark Dahlquist.

Voters will have multiple options to participate in the election: in person on Election Day, through early voting, or by absentee ballot.

Election Day Voting

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 2. Voters must cast ballots at their assigned polling place, not at the Bannock County Elections Office. Polling place information is available on the interactive map at bannockcounty.gov/elections.

Early Voting

Early voting will run from Monday, Nov. 17, through Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Bannock County Elections Office, 141 N. Sixth Ave. in Pocatello. The office will be closed Nov. 27–28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Absentee Voting

Voters who wish to vote by mail must request an absentee ballot by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21. Those who requested absentee ballots for the Nov. 4 election will automatically receive one for the runoff. Absentee ballots can be requested online at voteidaho.gov or at the Elections Office and must be returned by 8 p.m. on Election Day. A secure drop box is located in front of the Elections Office for ballot returns.

Same-Day Registration

Eligible voters may register at the polls on Election Day if they are U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, and can present a valid Idaho photo ID and proof of residence. Registered voters who cannot provide photo ID may sign a personal identification affidavit. Voters who have moved recently should bring a utility bill or rental agreement showing their current address.

Accessibility

Voters with visual impairments who wish to vote independently may use the ExpressVote machine at the Elections Office during early voting or on Election Day.
