(Idaho Fish and Game, November 22, 2025)

Pocatello–On Nov. 21, Idaho Fish and Game staff responded to a report of two mule deer bucks locked together by their antlers AND a big jumble of barbed wire. They were discovered on public land in the Mink Creek area near Pocatello, Idaho.

Fish and Game staff tranquilized the bucks so that they could begin the tricky task of untangling the animals, which ultimately required sawing an antler from each!

Luckily, removing an antler didn’t physically hurt the deer, though we can’t say their pride isn’t a little damaged.
This was a GREAT outcome for what could have otherwise been a deadly ending for these amazing animals.

Idaho Fish and Game thanks the public who reported this event as well as the homeowner who granted us quick access to these bucks through his property.

Video of the incident is available on the Department’s Facebook page, here.
