New year – new goals. It’s the same story, but instead of resolutions to go to the gym or eat healthier, Bannock County has some very specific goals to improve services and experiences for our residents. Here are four of them.

Expand Advanced Life Support to rural residents

The Bannock County Ambulance District – a.k.a. the Board of Commissioners – is exploring how to expand Advanced Life Support (ALS) coverage in the county’s rural southern region.

The proposal would establish a full-time ALS crew based at the new McCammon Fire Station, with the goal of beginning service to residents this summer.

Specific details are still being hashed out, and a workgroup has been formed to explore ways to enhance service. More details will be announced after the workgroup has wrapped up and plans are brought before the Commission.

In the meantime, you can learn more about why officials are exploring this project here.

Modernize the landfill scale house

The landfill is getting an upgrade that will improve wait times and customer service for patrons.

Bannock County is currently preparing to build a new scale house at the Fort Hall Mine Landfill.

The scale house is the entrance where vehicles are weighed and charged for waste disposal. The updated scale house design will add a line for commercial vehicles, reducing the wait times for residents and improving efficiency for the municipalities that dispose of waste at our landfill.

Refreshing Bannock County’s Land Use and Development Ordinances

Bannock County Planning & Development Services is drafting a comprehensive Land Use & Development Ordinance to replace the current zoning code.

Right now, Bannock County has eight different ordinances that cover different parts of land use and development.

Planning & Development Services is working to consolidate all eight ordinances into a single, clear, and simple rule. The goal of this project is to make rules easier to understand, simplify building requirements, and give residents greater control over their land.

Beginning a Master Plan for the Bannock County Events Complex

The Bannock County Events Complex, where the Port amphitheater, Portneuf Wellness Complex, sport fields, and the horse park are located, is preparing for the future.

To ensure the facility provides the best user experience and makes the most of every corner, Bannock County is interviewing companies to develop a Master Plan for the facility. This project is in the early stages, but it will eventually call for public input to determine what the community wants from this venue. Stay tuned!
