As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the Bannock County Office of Emergency Management reminds residents that a local burn ban remains in effect due to high fire danger.
According to the National Weather Service, the holiday weekend brings warming temperatures, clear skies, and low wind gusts. However, our fire fuels remain critical or near-critical, so we must remain vigilant in protecting our neighborhoods and beautiful public lands.
As you celebrate our nation’s founding, please keep these safety restrictions in mind:
- Cooking & Gas Pits:Commercial gas fire pits, gas grills, and charcoal briquettes remain permitted for food preparation when used according to manufacturer instructions.
- Fireworks:Aerial fireworks are strictly prohibited everywhere in Bannock County. Non-aerial fireworks are allowed only in non-WUI (Wildland-Urban Interface) areas. Altering, throwing, or using fireworks in fire hazard areas is illegal and subject to fines under Idaho Code §39-2609.
- WUI Areas:Absolutely no fireworks of any kind, open burning, or recreational fires are permitted in areas where homes meet fields or forests.
- You can view a map of USFS-designated Wildland-Urban Interfaces here, and use the “Search” option to find your address in the top left on mobile, bottom right on desktop. If you are unsure whether your property sits within a Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) boundary, please contact your local fire department or fire district before lighting any fireworks.
