They Have to Lie to Sell You Prop 1

Right now, Prop 1 is winning.
The polls say a majority of Idahoans plan to vote yes. Sit with that. A state that protected the unborn for generations is on track to write abortion back into law.
How? Not with the truth. The truth would sink it. Prop 1 is winning on a soft name and a stack of lies, and it is counting on good people to nod along before they read the fine print.
So let us read it. Here is what they are telling you, and here is what is actually true.
Lie #1: “It’s moderate.”
They call it the Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act. They talk about privacy. Choice. Doctors and patients. They want you picturing something small.
Now read the text. It creates a right to “reproductive freedom and privacy” that covers your decisions “including but not limited to” a list of items. Lawyers do not write “including but not limited to” by accident. Those words are a door left open on purpose.
It gets worse. The measure says the state cannot burden that right unless it proves its law is narrowly tailored and uses the least restrictive means. That is the strictest legal test there is. It tells judges to read the measure liberally in favor of abortion. And it says it overrides any Idaho law that conflicts with it.
It also erases conscience protections. The doctors, nurses, and pharmacists who refuse to take part in an abortion have the right to say no today. Prop 1 puts that right in the crosshairs too.
That is not moderate. That is a battering ram aimed at every pro-life protection we have.
Lie #2: “Idaho’s laws put women in danger.”
This is their emotional close. Idaho bans abortion, so women are left to suffer, and doctors can only stand and watch.
It is false, and the law says so in plain English. Since 2023 the statute is clear. Removing an ectopic or molar pregnancy is not an abortion. Removing a baby who has already died is not an abortion. Treating a woman who is no longer pregnant is not an abortion. Those treatments carry no legal risk to the mother or the doctor. None of it is banned.
The data backs it up. The state points to government figures showing maternal mortality has dropped since the pro-life law took effect. Idaho’s laws were written to protect mothers and babies alike, and they do.
When the campaign tells you a woman cannot be treated, they are betting you have not read the statute. They take real fear about real medical moments and aim it at a law that already handles those moments. That is not honesty. That is manipulation.
Lie #3: “The ban is driving doctors out of Idaho.”
You have heard the headline. Idaho passed a pro-life law, and the OB/GYNs fled.
The numbers say the opposite. According to Idaho Board of Medicine data cited by the Idaho Family Policy Center, the number of physicians licensed in Idaho who list OB/GYN as their specialty has grown from about 280 in 2022 to nearly 350 today. That is not a state losing its baby doctors. That is a state gaining them.
It makes sense. Doctors who have devoted their lives to bringing children into the world are drawn to a state that shares that mission. Our laws do not chase them off. They call them home.
Lie #4: “It only goes up to viability.”
They say the line is viability, so relax, this is about early pregnancy.
Read further. The text does not even define viability precisely. After that undefined line, the measure still permits abortion in what it calls a “medical emergency,” and it leaves the key terms loose. A soft standard plus a vague exception is not a limit. It is a suggestion.
We have watched this movie. Vague language does not stay vague. It gets stretched, case by case, by courts that were ordered to read it liberally in favor of abortion. By the time the stretching is done, the line they promised you is gone. A child who could be born, held, and fed is on the wrong side of it.
Lie #5: “It protects parental rights.”
The measure grants its new right to “every person.” It does not carve out minors. It does not say adults. It says every person, at any age.
Think about what that means for your daughter. Parental consent. Your right to be in the room. Your right to even know. All of it sits in the path of a right written with no age limit and a command to courts to read it as broadly as possible. A minor girl could end a pregnancy without her parents ever finding out. A stranger at a clinic should not have more say over your child than you do.
The danger they need you to ignore
Every lie above exists to keep your eyes off one thing. What abortion actually is.
It is the willing destruction of an unborn human life. From conception that is a separate person, with his own DNA and her own future. Not a clump of cells. Not a growth. A child. The campaign will not say the word, because the word ruins the pitch. So they say freedom. They say privacy. They say choice. Anything but abortion on demand, which is what Prop 1 delivers.
They also ignore the women. The “my body, my choice” slogan pretends every abortion is free and easy. It is not. Many women are pushed into it. By a boyfriend who will not stay. By a family that will not help. By a paycheck that will not stretch. Prop 1 does nothing for that woman. It clears the last obstacle between her and a decision she may carry for the rest of her life. The slogan never had room for the ones who grieve.
And it is permanent. A bad law can be repealed. A vote can be redone. This cannot. There is no undo.
Do not hand it to them
This is not new ground for Idaho. Our founders prohibited abortion in 1864, before Idaho was even a state. The defense of unborn life is older than the state itself. The years under Roe were the aberration, not the rule.
The other side has money, a friendly name, and a lead in the polls. What they do not have is the truth. That is why they hide it.
We do not have to hide anything. We just have to say it plainly, to our neighbors, our families, and our churches, before November 3.
Every life is precious. The unborn child. The frightened young mother. The baby a month from her first breath. Each one bears the image of God. None of them are freedom’s price to pay.
Do not be lulled by a gentle name. Vote NO on Prop 1.
