The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a high wind alert for Pocatello and the surrounding area.

West winds of 35-45 mph with gusts to around 60 mph are expected, beginning tonight, Sunday, March 28.

NWS advises taking the following actions:

  • Bring inside or secure any loose items outdoors
  • Stay away from windows
  • Have your emergency supply kit/flashlight ready in case of a power outage

According to the National Severe Storms Laboratory, winds at 60 mph can cause entire trees to be uprooted, significant structural damage, power outages, downed power lines, cars to veer off the road, and the possibility of serious injury from flying objects.

Mobile home residents can be at significantly greater risk.
