This week of May 9 through May 15 is National Police Week, 2021.

The Pocatello Police Department notes on their Facebook page:

“National Police Week (May 9 – May 15) pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Since the first recorded police death in 1791 there have been over 24,280 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.  During 2020, 362 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty, and a total of 119 officers have already been killed in the line of duty this year.”

The Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer salutes America’s law enforcement personnel, with a special appreciation for the men and women serving in Pocatello, Chubbuck, and Bannock County.
