On Saturday, January 8, 2022, Post 4 of the American Legion will hold their annual Oratorical Contest at the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building, 300 N. Johnson Avenue in Pocatello.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.

The local contest is the first stage of the national American Legion Oratorical Competition.  It requires students in grades 9-12 to give a speech, from memory, on the Constitution, with an emphasis on the responsibilities of Americans.

Students win cash prizes at each level of the competition as the winners advance from the local, post level contest, to the district, area, and national competitions.  The 2019 national champion was awarded an $18,000 scholarship.

Rules and additional information regarding the contest can be found, here:  American Legion Oratorical Competition Rules
