Why I Support HB 475

House Bill 475 passed the State House on a 57-13 vote.  This bill repeals a 1927 law forbidding private militias.  I support this bill.

The 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution reads:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The first message of the 2nd Amendment clearly states that a Militia is necessary.  Furthermore, militias are necessary for the security and freedom of a State, including Idaho.  Fortunately, the 1927 law has never been invoked in our State.

The justification for the 1927 law was based on the false premise of insurrections or lawless activities.  Recall about a year ago, Antifa people were threatening to invade our State in the panhandle area.  These people did substantial damage in Washington and Oregon.  For the protection of their own town, patriots showed up to greet these outsiders.  The Antifa turned their buses around and left our State.  The concept of Militia is indeed valid.

As I converse with Idahoans, many express their desire to uphold the Constitution.  In its entirety.  I wholeheartedly agree.  It is for this reason that I support House Bill 475.
