(Representative Ron Nate Press Release, March 2, 2022)

Idaho District 34 Representative Ron Nate

Idaho (March 2, 2022) — The House State Affairs has scheduled a public hearing on H666 – designed to keep smutty and obscene materials from being given to kids in schools and libraries – for Thursday, March 3rd at 9:00 a.m. State Representative Ron Nate released the following statement calling on parents to testify: “We introduced H666 after learning about a loophole in Idaho law that excuses schools, universities, libraries, and museums from the prohibition on distributing harmful and obscene materials to minors.  This bill would extend the prohibition to the aforementioned institutions. We learned from a library board member that libraries around the state use this loophole to make pornographic and other disturbing materials regarding sex and sexual activities available to children.  No institution in Idaho or across the United States should have the legal permission to corrupt our children.  We are calling on parents from all across the state to attend the public hearing on H666 this Thursday, March 3rd at 9:00 a.m. and make their voices heard.  Parents have a right to know what materials are being made available to their children.  We have a right to demand that our children are not exposed to pornographic and other harmful, obscene materials.”
