The Idaho Field of Heroes, a unique tribute to every service member who has died in Iraq and Afghanistan, officially opened for Memorial Day weekend this morning with a dedication ceremony.
Bannock County Commissioner Jeff Hough welcomed those attending the dedication, after which Pastor Jim Jones provided an invocation and former Marine Joseph David Vaux led the Pledge of Allegiance. Melissa Schrade sang the National Anthem.
A Joint Federal Delegation Letter from Senator Mike Crapo, Senator Jim Risch, and Representative Mike Simpson was read by Farhana Hibbert, Regional Director for Senator Crapo. Commissioner Hough read a proclamation from the Bannock County Board of Commissioners.
Providing the Dedication Address this year was Father Constantine of the Greek Orthodox Church, and the raising of the colors was done by the VFW Post 735 Honor Guard.
The Field of Heroes will remain open throughout Memorial Day weekend, with events taking place through Monday, May 30, when there will be a closing ceremony at 6:00 p.m.
