POCATELLO–Local attorney and former state legislator Mark Nye passed away last Saturday at Portneuf Medical Center after a long illness. He was 76 years old.
Though born in New York City, Nye was raised in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School in 1963. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University before earning his law degree at the University of Idaho College of Law in 1974.
Mark Nye practiced law from 1974 until his death, and was widely recognized as a leader in his profession. He served as president of the Idaho Association of Defense Counsel, the Idaho State Bar Association, and the Sixth District Bar Association, as well as serving on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association.
Nye is perhaps most widely known for his time in the Idaho State Legislature. He served one term as District 29 Representative, from 2014-2016. He ran for State Senate in 2016 and won that race as well, remaining in the Senate until his retirement earlier this year.
