Pocatello, ID–Several of the City’s Advisory Boards have current or upcoming vacancies.  These volunteer committees advise the City on a variety of special matters, ranging from historic preservation to human rights.  Board members are generally required to be 16 years of age or older, and reside in the City of Pocatello.  A complete list of the boards, the open seats, and the responsibilities of each can be seen here.

While some of the Advisory Committees can simply allow seats to remain open until filled, three of the committees have deadlines for applications to fill their vacancies.  The most pressing is the Parks and Recreation Board, followed by the Human Relations Advisory Committee and the Pocatello Regional Airport Commission.

According to the City’s website, the purpose of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is “to coordinate the activities of the other Parks and Recreation committees, to provide an overview of the various committees, and to solicit suggestions and recommendations regarding priorities and allocation of city resources for Parks and Recreation programs and facilities.”  This Board meets at noon on the first Thursday of even-numbered months, at the Community Recreation Center at 144 Wilson Ave.  The deadline for applications is August 12.

The Human Relations Advisory Committee has two current vacancies.  The City’s website explains, “The City of Pocatello Human Relations Advisory Committee provides a forum in which citizens may informally present their concerns or proposals regarding civil rights issues; advises the Mayor and City Council as to civil rights concerns of the citizens of the community; suggests programs to promote positive relations among all members of our community; and strives to improve relations among all members of the community regardless of their race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, creed, sex, age, marital or familial status, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.”  Meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.  Applications must be received by August 19.

The Pocatello Regional Airport Commission has one upcoming vacancy.  This committee advises the City on matters related to the airport, including leases and the Master Plan. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 12 noon at the Airport.  Applications for this position are also due August 19.
