In conjunction with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s recent transition to the 3-digit code 988, the Veterans Crisis Line is also getting a new phone number.  Now, veterans in need of assistance will simply need to Dial 988 then Press 1.

In the fifteen years since its founding in 2007, the Veterans Crisis Line has received 6.2 million calls and nearly one million texts and chats.  Veterans and their loved ones who contact the hotline are connected with responders (many of whom are veterans themselves) who are trained to support veterans and connect them with the resources they need.

The Veterans Crisis Line is free and confidential.  Callers are not required to be enrolled in VA Health or registered with the VA in order to use the line.
