On Monday, December 19, the group Patriots for Liberty & Constitution will continue discussing Alexis de Tocqueville’s ‘Democracy in America’ Book 2. The discussion will be led by Art da Rosa.
According to the event notes, “We will be discussing 3 short chapters again. IX, That the Americans Apply the Principle of Self-Interest Rightly Understood to Religious Matters; X, Of the Taste for Physical Well-Being in America; XI, Peculiar Effects of the Love of Physical Gratifications in Democratic Times. I would like to opine that these chapters are important. During the translation, some of the meanings were lost. For example, instead of Freedom of Assembly, Tocqueville uses Freedom of Association; instead of Freedom of the Press, he uses Relationship to Newspaper. This week, we will be discussing Individual Rights, Religious Freedom, and General Welfare. Have fun reading.”
The group meets at Mountain Valley Baptist Church, 202 S. 7th Avenue in Pocatello, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
