(Bannock County Press Release, April 3, 2023)

The Idaho legislature recently passed a property tax relief bill that expands the income requirements for the Property Tax Reduction – “Circuit Breaker” – program.
Qualified homeowners can save up to $1,500 by applying to the Property Tax Reduction Program, which is meant to help seniors, people with disabilities, and widowers with their property taxes.
The new law increases the requirement for an applicant’s household net income for 2022 to $37,000 or less after deducting medical expenses.
“If you turned 65 in 2022, are a widow or widower, are recognized as disabled on Social Security, or are a veteran, we highly encourage you to check what your net income was in 2022. You could qualify with the new income requirements,” said Bannock County Assessor Anita Hymas.
The deadline to apply for the PTR program is Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
“We only have two weeks until the deadline, and with this new change, we really need to get the word out to people who may qualify for this tax relief,” Hymas said. “If you know of anyone who might meet the criteria listed above who has not applied yet, please spread the word.”
Property owners must apply for the Property Tax Reduction every year, as it is not renewed automatically. The Bannock County Assessor’s Office encourages everyone who has previously qualified for the program to reapply in 2023. If approved, the reduction in property taxes will appear on the December 2023 tax bills.
