In the Treasurer’s Office, we are getting ready for our 2nd-half 2022 tax collection. June is a very busy time for us. We always look forward to helping our customers and assisting them with any questions they might have regarding their property taxes.  We are taxpayers as well, so we understand the frustration that comes with the rising cost of property taxes.

On that note, a friendly reminder that the 2nd-half 2022 property taxes are due by June 20, 2023. Please ensure they are postmarked by 6/20/22 to ensure the payment is considered on time.  If you don’t want to mail your payment, we offer several different payment methods.  We have a white drop box on Center Street in front of the courthouse. You can drop your payment in there. We check the drop box twice daily during our tax collection to ensure that payments are processed timely. There is also a link on our website to pay online with a debit/credit card or E-check.

We are currently in the process of our Tax Deed proceedings for the 2019 delinquent taxes. The Tax Deed Hearing will be held Tuesday, May 9, at 1:30 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Chambers of the Bannock County Courthouse. When we started the process for this, we had 80 delinquent parcels. Now, we have 19 parcels that haven’t been paid off yet.

We are also working on delinquent Mobile Homes and Personal Property as well.  A Warrant of Distraint has been sent to the Sheriff’s Office.  They are currently trying to collect all of those delinquent taxes. When we started this process in January, we had 493 delinquent parcels. There are now 80 parcels that haven’t been paid off yet.  The Sheriff’s sale is scheduled for May 16 at 10:00 am at the Sheriff’s Office on S 5th Avenue. At this time, any Mobile Homes that haven’t been paid will be sold.

The Assessor’s Office is preparing to send out the 2023 Assessment Notices in June. We have always suggested that homeowners bring those to us so we can prepare an “estimate” for the upcoming tax year.  There have been some changes in Legislation this year that will make this task a bit tricky. House Bill 292 will prevent tax estimates due to the changes happening with exemptions and tax credits. However, we can still provide an estimate using the new value with the 2022 levy. We ask that you be patient with us as we try to work through all of the changes.
