Bannock County–The Portneuf Library Board will gain two new trustees after Tuesday’s election.  Sara E. Petersen is running for Seat 4 as a write-in candidate, while Christine Paulsen and Tia Shaffer are vying for Seat 5.

Tia Shaffer explains her reasons for running in a Facebook post dated May 2:

There is no other way to put it, I love our Portneuf Library which is why I am running to be on the Library Board of Trustees.

I believe the Portneuf Library is essential in our community. The resources and programs provided, promotes learning, growth and brings the community together. There is no better place to take your children, to foster a love in reading.

As a board member, I will work to ensure that our library continues to be a vibrant and an inclusive space that serves all members of the community.

I believe that the wonderful staff at the library do a fantastic job at creating a space where fun and learning coexist. I want to advocate for the funding and resources needed so they can continue the great work they are doing.

I would appreciate your vote on May 16th. Early voting is happening now.

I’ll even bring back the old student council campaign slogan I used to help you remember: Mama Mia Vote for Tia

Information about Sara Petersen and Christine Paulsen is very limited.  Paulsen is a Democrat, and is endorsed by local attorney and former D29 candidate Mary Shea.  Petersen is running unopposed as a write-in candidate.

You must live outside the city limits to vote in this election.  Because it is a smaller election, some polling places have been relocated.  To find your polling place, check the table below:
