(Pocatello for Accountable Government Entities, July 5, 2023)
Last week (Wednesday-06/28/2023) was the first budget meeting the Council was presented with a budget reconciliation sheet (showing the various deficits/overages, etc. after all the approved spending increases from previous meetings were added.)
There are still some decisions to be made, but we did want to let the public know that as of the end of that meeting (NO DECISIONS FINAL YET), the 3% Foregone increase for capital expenditures was removed.
However, the full 3%-statutory-allowed tax levy (tax ask) increase and the 1% Foregone (tax ask) increase remains in the proposed FY2024 budget as of the end of that 06/28/23 meeting for a total 4% property tax “City Levy” increase for now. (the informal voice vote to keep the 1% foregone in the budget was 5-1 with Cheatum dissenting) This can still change before the budget is approved to publish and it could be reduced after the final “property valuation” numbers are finalized.
If time allows, we’ll highlight some discussions/decisions from that meeting.
