As your County Coroner, I just wanted to give you an update on the evolution, operations, and goals of this office. First and foremost, in terms of evolution, we are always striving to provide the best service we can for the citizens of Bannock County. To do so, our operational efficiency must be built on a solid foundation of self-sufficiency and sustainability moving forward. My goal for this office is to stop outsourcing our operational resource needs, which will provide independent operation, allowing us to continue being proactive rather than reactive. When we rely on other resources to support the operational needs of this office, we lose control of cost, maintenance, and security, which in turn puts us in a position to potentially increase the cost of our operational obligations by investing in a private entity’s resources other than investing in Bannock County. In the long term, I believe we will strengthen our foundation of self-sufficiency and sustainability while effectively cutting the potential cost of outsourcing.

Last year my goals were to take a leadership role in advancing our education in this office. I’m happy to say we are succeeding by receiving our ABMDI (American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigation) Certification and continually advancing to receive IACME (International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners) accreditation. We are also hosting more training opportunities locally, which provides coroners and law enforcement partners from the region a greater opportunity to train together. We have added another full-time Medicolegal Death Investigator to the office, which provides sustainability due to the growth in the population of our county. Another goal of last year was to secure a mobile morgue trailer for Bannock County while also creating a deployable asset for the region to utilize during a potential mass-casualty situation. I’m happy to report that we have received that trailer and accomplished that goal through our partnership with the Greater Idaho Healthcare Coalition, which provided the funding to purchase the trailer.

Moving forward, I will always strive to be the best Bannock County Coroner’s Office that we can. As always, feel free to contact me with any suggestions or improvements that we can make to better serve you.

Sincerely,
Torey Danner
