(Zoo Idaho, August 29, 2023)
We’re excited to tell you about the trip we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. In the summer of 2025, we have a unique opportunity for students 14-18 years old. We will be partnering with EF tours on a STEM trip to Belize. The programming will start with a week of summer camp at the zoo where we will be learning about how we deal with conservation, sustainability, watershed ecology and riparian restoration in the United States. Then we jet off to Belize to compare our practices to how Belize is addressing climate change, conservation, and deforestation. We will work with local NGO’s to conduct watershed quality assessments, soil quality, jungle conservation, and sustainable farming in the forest. Then we will head to the reef where we will help conduct an underwater transect survey and work with local scientist on a manatee project. We will also learn about how Belize is supporting biodiversity by helping with a reforestation project.
While we will be learning a lot about conservation, forest and marine ecology; we will also be having fun! Zip lining, cave tubing, snorkeling along the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere! For more information about the trip head to Belize: Conservation from Ridge to Reef.
If this sounds like something your learners would like to participate in, please attend our first informational meeting on September 27, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Zoo Idaho Education Building (3101 Ave of the Chiefs). Please register before attending.
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
In this information session, we’ll talk about:
- How this opportunity will benefit your child
- What we’ll see and do on our trip
- Everything that’s included in this experience
- How your child can earn academic credit
- How we’ll be keeping the trip safe and affordable
- How to enroll on the trip (before it fills up!)
Registration for this information session is mandatory to help organize our meeting and to notify attendees of a change in time or location if necessary. A parent or guardian must attend. Can’t make it? Choose “No, but send info” so you don’t miss out. Register for the information meeting.
Can’t wait to see you there! Feel free to pass this information on to other students who might be interested!
