(City of Pocatello Press Release, November 1, 2023)
Through the US Forest Service, the City of Pocatello was awarded a one million dollar “Urban Community Forestry” grant.
The grant provides necessary funding to improve Pocatello’s urban forest health, specifically through the creation of an Urban Forest Plan, conducting a tree inventory, updating the asset management database, and completing risk mitigation work. Risk mitigation includes tree trimming, pruning, removal, and replanting. Tree work will occur in City parks and along the public right-of-way primarily in designated historically disadvantaged areas, as funding allows.
The City will host public outreach events to engage target populations in urban forestry activities. The grant has a five-year period of performance, and anticipated work is projected to start in mid-2024 and continue through 2028.
