‘Patriots for Liberty and Constitution’ is a book discussion group that meets at Mountain Valley Baptist Church on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. This month, they will be finishing The Righteous Mind, an excellent book that defines morality and ethics.
In December, the group will hold only three meetings. Their discussion will be based on the book, Great Political Thinkers. The first week will be on Plato, Aristotle, and a general overview of all the great thinkers in history.
The second week will cover Polybius, Cicero, Locke, and perhaps Adam Smith. The topic of Property Rights will also be introduced. We tend to think that this is a well-understood topic; however, it is still evolving today (think, for example, of the Planning and Zoning Council and Property Taxes).
In the third week, the group will be discussing the more progressive thinkers: Hobbes, Rousseau, and Nietzsche. Group leader Art da Rosa wants members to understand the origin of the leftist ideology and how to combat them.
Starting in January 2024, the group will be discussing the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers, a national treasure relating to our Constitution. They were as timely then as they are timeless now.
