Veterans Day
To Honor My Father
By: Christy Zito, Senator-Elect, District 8

My father, Lewis Misrasi, instilled in me a love for our country and the desire to leave it a better place than I found it.
My dad served in Korea, dedicating four years of his life to the country his parents chose to call home. He returned to Utah, married, began a family, and then worked to contribute to the community.
I was told that this is America, and no matter how much we honor the culture of the “old country,” this is where our allegiance belongs.
Like many who served back then, my dad didn’t talk about his service; we would not have known if it had not been for the pictures in a scrapbook.
I had school teachers who served in WWI, WWII, and Korea. They didn’t speak of their experience either. I was out of school before I knew many of them had served.
I learned more about our country, government, civics, and the constitution from these men who carried wounds, visible and not, from defending our rights. They often spoke of how America would fall from within, that not a shot would be fired.
Today, I honor them and those who have served since then with a day of remembrance. Every day, I honor them by doing my part, working to protect what they dedicated their lives to protect.
NEVER FORGET FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. EACH OF US HAS A PART TO PLAY IN PRESERVING OUR REPUBLIC!
God bless America, and God bless Idaho!
“We need patriots who will serve in our state capitals to fight federal overreach and stand firm against those — in both parties — who prioritize seizing political power over representing constituents.” (State Freedom Caucus Network)
