The Sound of Silence
By: Idaho Representative Heather Scott

This legislative session demanded a tremendous amount of time and energy.
Much of my efforts were spent focused and engaged in drafting legislation, researching policy issues, working bills through the process, and helping constituents navigate some major individual issues. The session lasted 81 days, and I returned home only twice for a quick visit with my family.
These efforts took away from my normal ability to generate timely newsletters. For that I apologize. I’ve had several folks contact me, thinking they were dropped from my legislative updates and newsletters because of my lack of producing newsletters. Be rest assured, my silence was the result of my immersion in my legislative work, and not because I was disengaged. Now that the session is behind us, my plans are to write and get newsletters out more often, while also focusing on reelection and helping other conservatives get re-elected or elected.
A few things I’d like to alert you of from the recent legislative session. One area that took significant time was family court issues. Many good parents with no criminal issues are being denied custody and even visitation with their children. Children caught in custody battles are sometimes being placed with pedophiles or drug dealers with major criminal issues. I spent many hours working on legislation aimed at changing Idaho’s current policies to work towards reforming our family courts. Because Idaho legislators in the past were not detailed enough with the law, many financial “judicial industries” have been built up around these family issues. Substantive parental rights appear to be ignored by the judges and courts. There is much to say here, but it will be in another update (hopefully coming soon).
While there were fewer updates during the session, please know that the work never stopped. My focus has been, and continues to be, serving you and doing the hard work behind the scenes to move good policy forward. Thank you for your patience, and I look forward to sharing more with you about what was accomplished this session and some of the major battles occurring behind the scenes within the liberty movement. Stay tuned!
In Liberty,
Rep. Heather Scott
