BANNOCK COUNTY, Idaho – In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Bannock County Veteran Services is inviting veterans, service members, families, and community members to a free dinner focused on building strong connections and encouraging open conversations around mental health.
The event will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building, located at 300 N. Johnson Avenue in Pocatello.
The evening offers a comfortable, welcoming space for neighbors to come together, share a meal, and support one another. During the program, three local families will share stories honoring the lives and memories of their loved ones, highlighting the real challenges military and veteran families face while celebrating the resilience of the community.
“We host resource fairs throughout the year, but we wanted to do something different for this event,” said Veteran Services Coordinator Melissa Hartman. “We want to create a comfortable, personal setting where people can have honest conversations about mental health and break down the stigma surrounding asking for help.”
Local mental health professionals, veteran service officers, and community organizations will be on hand to offer support, answer questions, and share practical resources. The event will also highlight the local “Please Just Stay” campaign, reminding attendees that every life has value and help is always within reach.
“Human connection is so vital to our well-being,” Hartman added. “This dinner is more than a gathering—it’s a chance to connect with people who understand, build meaningful relationships, and remind each other that no one has to go through tough times alone.”
The dinner is complimentary and open to all veterans, active service members, their families, and interested community members.
